:  A LOAD OF MAEHWA :

Maehwa(plum blossoms) is a widely known flower in Korea; the very first flowers to awaken at the end of winter, announcing the arrival of spring.

As one of the Four Gracious Plants(Sa-goon-ja), [MAEHWA] has long been admired for its ability to endure the cold and bloom ahead of all others.

It also represents the integrity of ‘Sunbi’, a noble scholar, uncompromising in the face of adversity, and is often associated with purity, patience, and hope.

Rather than celebrating ornamentation and adornment, this collection focuses on the strength to endure time and the dignity of holding our place without seeking attention.

With OUWR’s modern perspectives accumulated over time, we introduce a new series of MAEHWA, plum blossom patterns.

P21 : MAEHWA

This pattern focuses on the restrained beauty of a single plum blossom, Maehwa.

Balanced forms and rhythmic repetition express the discipline and quiet strength symbolized by [P21 MAEHWA].

A composed structure reveals a calm yet resilient presence.

P22 : MAEHWA LAYER

Plum blossoms are composed of multiple layers—petals, calyx, and stamens.

By deconstructing and layering these elements geometrically, this pattern explores depth and subtle variations in color.

With each layer, the presence of [P22 MAEHWA LAYER] becomes much more pronounced.

P23 : MAEHWADO

Throughout Korean history, plum blossoms have appeared in many cultural forms— architecture, walls, chimneys, folding screens, and paintings.

They are especially prominent in poetry, calligraphy, and painting.

Inspired by traditional “maehwado” paintings, OUWR reinterprets its unique characteristic, the negative space of classical traditional art, through a contemporary lens.
