OUWR x HANBOK WAVE : SUJI
Marking the beginning of 2024, actress Suzy graced the January cover of ELLE Korea, wearing a OUWR's newly designed Hanbok. This special collaboration highlights the timeless beauty of Hanbok, blending its elegance and sophisticated silhouette with OUWR’s vision to show the rich diversity of Korean traditional culture.
As part of the Hanbok Wave project, led by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation (KCDF) in collaboration with six Hanbok brands (OUWR, Songhwa by Jung, Yoo Hyun-hwa Hanbok, Tchai Kim, Happly, and Hanbokmoon), this editorial was showcased on the billboards of Times Square in New York on December 24, once again bringing global attention to the beauty of Hanbok.
Designed with great attention to traditional elements, Suzy’s outfit consists of a Cheolik outerwear and a Seuran Chima dress. Cheolik Outerwear is
a contemporary take on the traditional Yoseon Cheolik. The asymmetrical sheer Cheolik is crafted from Hamchang Myungju to emphasize its refined elegance. The variation in hem length creates a dramatic, dress-like effect. The piece is completed with hand-embroidered floral motifs and OUWR’s signature “Guleum Ggot” (Cloud Blossom) pattern, applied using a silver foil technique. The Seuran Chima Dress is a reinterpretation of the Seuran Chima, featuring a double-layered Daeran silhouette that enhances the flow and volume of the skirt. The main pattern of the outfit, “Norigae”, is subtly incorporated into the two-layered skirt and hemline, adding a modern yet understated charm.
NORIGAE [노리개]
Designed exclusively for the Hanbok Wave project, 'NORIGAE' a traditional Korean ornament, historically symbolizing femininity. Beyond its role as an accessory for adornment, it carries the hopes and wishes of the wearer. Each knot intricately woven into a norigae embodies wisdom, creativity, and refined artistry of Korean women, offering a glimpse into the elegance and sophistication of Korea’s cultural heritage. Infused with these traditional elements, OUWR’s 'NORIGAE' pattern captures the essence of this cherished adornment, allowing you to carry a piece of timeless beauty and personal aspirations in everyday life.
